A Wasp spider (Argiope bruennichi) is a spider from the Araneidae family, also called real spiders. Other names include Tiger spider.
The name 'wasp spider' has to do with the looks of the spider. The spider can't sting and is harmless for humans. The relatively large females is black with yellow and white stripes and just before laying eggs, the abdomen is heavily swollen. The belly has two yellow stripes in the lenght. The legs are brownish black with yellow bands. Sitting in the web upside-down makes the waspspider really striking, which is a reason for enemies to let the wasp-like spider alone.
